A Wedding Metaphor

So, today there was a wedding, my cousin Andrew married Cara.  The ceremony was nice, but what I really enjoyed was the candy buffet they had set up at the reception.  What a great idea!  They had several different containers of "old fashioned" candies from Bit o' Honey to Smarties.  People could go up and fill a little bag full of candy.  You got to leave with a sweet.  What really struck me was what a great metaphor this was ... for a wedding.  Often the wedding, is seen as the best part of the couple's time together.  It is the sugary sweet time of their lives.  However, marriage is really about the meat and potatoes of life.  It is really about the food that sustains you.  In fact, Renee commented on how when you are saying your vows, you can't even imagine what God has in store for your life together.  But you know, sometimes you just need to reminded how sweet life can be.  God created us to enjoy those sweet times.   We are here to enjoy the life that God has chosen for you.  We are created for something special!  Like times with family.  I think we forget we actually like each other.  At the reception, we had the opportunity to sit around and just chat for awhile.  It was really nice.  I enjoy spending time with them, as they are the only people who can really understand out collective pasts.
